Aluar Aluminio Argentino SAIC is the only primary aluminum producer in Argentina and one of the largest in South America. The success case of Aluar is an example of how, by working closely with the customer and taking into account their specific needs, GlobalTech generates significant added value. In this case, the implementation of the product GT WMS®, process optimization, and the customized development of a web platform coexist. All of these elements come together to create a definitive and impactful solution.
The Challenge
Aluar was facing the challenge of modernizing its management systems for its operations in the storage of semi-finished products (ingots, bars, billets, etc.) at its plant in Puerto Madryn (Province of Chubut). For this purpose, a range of suppliers was considered, including different national alternatives, international providers, in-house development, and even the adoption of the WMS module that was available in its ERP.
GT WMS® was one of the products evaluated and ultimately chosen by Aluar. In this decision, the differentiating factor was not only the quality and functional scope of GT WMS®, but also the logistics expertise of the GlobalTech team.
The Solution
To meet the needs of Aluar, the challenge of implementing GT WMS® with its predefined functions and scope was undertaken, but also adding additional development hours to cover specific aspects of the operation and achieve full integration with the company's other internal systems on a web platform.
The project involved a joint work team, including Aluar staff (both from operational and systems areas) and a group of developers, consultants, and implementers from GlobalTech. Tasks such as surveying, reengineering, and process optimization were undertaken, along with the development of specific functions required by the client.
The final solution was a web product that allows Aluar to fully systematize its warehouses, from the reception of materials at the foot of the production line (integrating with the MRP system) to dispatch to the domestic and international market (integrating in this segment with the ERP system). It also includes the management of operational management information required for the company's financial areas.
The total project required approximately 14 months of work until its implementation. An extensive pre-testing plan was executed, which allowed for a smooth transition to production and meeting the established timelines and objectives.
As a result of the project, Aluar achieved adequate traceability of its products in storage and yards, as well as streamlining and optimizing its operational process.
