Coral del Mar's case exemplifies the importance of a good WMS for multi-warehouse management. Coral del Mar is a multi-sector logistics operator with operations strategically located around Uruguay.
Started as a transportation company in 1985, today Coral del Mar offers services that cover the entire logistics chain, including Warehousing, Stock Management, Transportation, and Distribution, among others. The company is part of ITSANET, a network of logistics operators in Latin America.
The Challenge
With its sustained business expansion and two operating warehouses, Coral del Mar decided to computerize its activity in order to provide greater efficiency and control.
In addition to the challenge of multi-warehouse operations, CDM's activity presented additional complexities: it had palletized and non-palletized loads, as well as logistic units of various weights and sizes. Furthermore, the new businesses that CDM was entering into required providing information on stock status to their customers online.
The WMS system to be incorporated should overcome these management complexities and allow efficient control of both facilities simultaneously. With this goal in mind, Coral Del Mar personnel began to evaluate the possibilities present in the market.
The Solution
After evaluating the available software options in Uruguay, GT WMS (also known as "Tip Top" by Coral del Mar) from GlobalTech was chosen as the solution. Among the important factors for its selection were its high configurability, operational flexibility, and scalability capabilities. All of these factors would allow for new operational processes to be added as new businesses were incorporated. The web view feature, which allows for real-time information sharing with clients about the stock status, was also considered valuable.
The implementation project of GT WMS began with an operational survey of the tasks performed in both locations. The different processes were monitored, analyzing strengths and suggesting optimizations. After this, the decision was made to proceed with the installation of the software on Coral Del Mar's corporate servers, and then with intensive training.
In each of the operational locations, training was provided on the configuration of the tool to key users, as well as the operational aspects corresponding to different user levels, including supervisors and operators.
Additionally, a series of pre-production tests were carried out to allow CDM staff to become familiar with the use of the tool and reinforce the knowledge acquired during the training period.
Once these stages were completed, the start-up was carried out simultaneously in both operations and was absolutely successful.
