The success story of Papierttei illustrates how, as an operation grows, its logistics become more complex. The expansion of businesses brings about the need to optimize the processes that support it. In this scenario, GT WMS® enters: to computerize warehouse management, to make storage intelligent and increase the company's actual productivity.
The Challenge
The challenge for Papierttei, one of the largest auto parts distributors in the country, was to implement a WMS in four branches across the country. To achieve this, they had to transform their work culture, accustomed to living with a lack of information, into one that would allow them to predict their operation and act based on reliable information. The goal was to improve not only the performance of the operational areas but also the reliability with which the salespeople work on the streets and the administrative area.
For this reason, and with the objective of improving operational aspects of their warehouse management - such as inventory accuracy, preparation process speed, space optimization, and order accuracy - that affected not only productivity but also customer satisfaction, Papierttei focused on finding a WMS solution that could be implemented in their four operational centers (Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Bahia Blanca, and Rosario)
The Solution
After an extensive selection process, GT WMS® was the chosen solution to be implemented in their warehouses and integrated with the company's proprietary ERP. The project was underway.
El proyecto Papierttei involucró un grupo de trabajo compuesto por personal operativo de las diferentes sucursales, así como también personal de IT que trabajó junto al equipo de GlobalTech en una integración total, a fin de proveer la sinergia y velocidad que la operación demandaba. Se contemplaron incluso operaciones de venta por mostrador, que implican una dinámica diferente con el cliente y una agilidad acorde a la venta.
In addition, sales staff were involved to understand the scope of the project and the advantages of having reliable information about the availability and existence of merchandise in each of the company's branches. The implementation of DEPOT WMS would allow them to commit to the customer from the moment of the sale, achieving their satisfaction by fulfilling in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner.
The project took approximately 10 months of joint work. It was necessary to define operational processes and adopt technology to complete the implementation in the four branches. A decentralized model was followed, based on technical definitions that the client demanded, and a process of information consolidation was worked on, generated by Papierttei's IT staff.
As a result, the areas ranging from the process of receiving products from suppliers, counter returns, customer returns, and a warranty return process were covered; from storage optimizing spaces and following the client's guidelines, to the preparation, control, packaging, and dispatch of orders. The entire process was optimized, computerized, and functioning smoothly
